If you would like advice on a particular condition or symptom, you can telephone NHS Direct on 0845 4647 for nurse advice or visit their website www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk where you will find comprehensive and up-to-date information on a wide range of health issues.

NHSDirect is a nurse-led information service providing callers with confidential health care advice and information 24 hours a day. It can help with

·         Health conditions
·         Local health care services
·         Self help and support organizations
 
Your local pharmacy
You can visit your local pharmacy for advice on common illnesses. A pharmacist is qualified to recommend non-prescription medication and measures to treat minor complaints.
 
999 & Accident and Emergency
Please think carefully before dialing 999 for an ambulance or going to an A&E Department. These services are for people who are seriously ill or injured. Examples of where you should dial 999 are:
·         If someone is unconscious
·         Severe breathing difficulty
·         Suspected heart attack/ severe chest pains
·         If you suspect a broken bone
·         If someone is bleeding heavily
