How our Service Works
Our call-handling service is provided by South Central Ambulance Service from their ambulance call centre in Wokingham. Trained call-handlers will take your details asking you for your telephone number, name and address, date of birth, your own doctor’s name and surgery and a brief description of the problem you are calling about.
A duty doctor or nurse will call you back to discuss your problem. You may be given advice on how to manage the problem yourself until you next see your own doctor, or you may be invited to attend the Primary Care Centre. Alternatively, if there is a medical reason why you cannot attend the centre, one of our doctors may agree to visit you at home.
Is it generally better for patients to attend the Primary Care Centre, if at all possible, as we have better facilities for examination and treatment and it is a better use of resources meaning that more patients can benefit from the service.
All calls are recorded for medico-legal reasons.
